OpenAI Partner Network. How the partner program works

— W SKRÓCIE

The OpenAI Partner Network is OpenAI's global channel program for companies that build, sell and implement solutions on its models. Partners sit at one of three tiers: Select, Advanced and Elite. The program provides access to resources, implementation materials and support. It is not a quality certificate and not a guarantee that an implementation will succeed.

What the OpenAI Partner Network is

The OpenAI Partner Network is the channel through which OpenAI works with companies that deploy its technology for end customers. The program covers four roles: building solutions, co-selling with OpenAI, implementing at customer sites, and connecting customers with the technology.

Program materials describe it as an effort to bring together firms with industry knowledge, implementation capability and customer relationships, and to give them resources, materials and support so organisations can move from interest in models to measurable results.

The program launched in June 2026. Companies named as founding partners included Accenture, Bain, BCG, McKinsey through its QuantumBlack practice, and PwC.

Three partner tiers

Partners sit at one of three tiers.

TierPosition in the program
SelectEntry tier into the partner network
AdvancedIntermediate tier
EliteTop tier

Four areas drive advancement: sales results, technical certification, engagement in co-selling with OpenAI, and implementation experience.

This is worth stating plainly, because company marketing often blurs it: Select is the entry tier, not the top of the hierarchy. A firm presenting that status as the highest possible distinction is describing something other than how the program is built.

Specialisations

Alongside tiers, the program includes specialisations, which mark deeper capability in specific areas. Materials name Codex, cybersecurity and agents among them. A specialisation is separate from a tier and is earned separately.

What the program gives a partner

Three things confirmed in program materials:

  1. Resources and implementation materials. Access to technical and training content prepared by OpenAI.
  2. Support. Contact with OpenAI teams during customer work.
  3. Co-selling. The program provides for commercial collaboration, not only for using the API on general terms.

For the end customer, the indirect effect matters most. A firm working close to the technology vendor knows earlier where the product is heading, which lowers the risk of building something that stops making sense after the next model update.

What OpenAI does not publish

This section matters more than the ones above, because a fair amount of what circulates about the program is presented as official rule when it is not.

OpenAI does not publish numerical thresholds for partner tiers. It names the areas that drive advancement but gives no cut-off values: no required customer count, no sales volume, no minimum API spend. Numbers presented as OpenAI's criteria are somebody's interpretation, not program content.

Partner status is not a quality certificate. It is an organisation's membership in a partner network. Certification of individuals, which OpenAI runs separately, is a different mechanism.

Program materials do not describe privileged model access. They describe resources, materials and support. A claim that partners receive models unavailable to others would need a source, and there is none.

What this means when choosing a supplier

Partner status is an indication, not proof. It says a company went through a process on OpenAI's side and works within the program. It says nothing about whether that company will handle your processes, your data and your team.

Three questions settle more in practice than the status itself:

  1. Which processes has this company actually changed, and what was measured before and after.
  2. What it does with data: where data goes, who has access, what happens when the project ends.
  3. What happens when the model vendor changes pricing or retires a model version.

A company answering those three specifically is a better choice than a company with a higher partner tier and general statements.

How we know what is written here

We separate three things, because mixing them causes most of the confusion around partner programs.

Fact from program materials: the description of the program, the existence of three tiers, the areas driving advancement, specialisations, and visibility rules in the Partner Locator.

Experience of YES FOR sp. z o.o.: the company behind yesfor.ai holds OpenAI Select Partner status and received program materials covering status naming and communication.

Our interpretation: everything in this text about how to read partner status when choosing a supplier. That is our assessment, not OpenAI's position.

Frequently asked questions

What is the OpenAI Partner Network?
It is OpenAI's global partner program for companies that build, sell and implement solutions based on its models. It connects firms that bring industry knowledge and implementation capability with resources, materials and support from OpenAI. The program launched in June 2026.
What are the OpenAI partner tiers?
Three: Select, Advanced and Elite. Movement between tiers is based on sales results, technical certification, co-selling with OpenAI and implementation experience. Select is the entry tier, not the top of the hierarchy.
Is partner status a certificate?
No. It is a status held by an organisation within a partner network, not a quality certificate for its services or training. OpenAI runs certification for individuals separately, and that is a different mechanism.
Does OpenAI publish detailed criteria for each tier?
Not as numerical thresholds. OpenAI names the areas that drive advancement, namely sales, technical certification, co-selling and implementations. It does not publish cut-off values. Anyone quoting such numbers is quoting their own guess.
Do partners get access to models other customers cannot use?
Program materials describe access to resources, implementation materials and support. They do not describe access to models closed to other customers. A claim about privileged model access would need a source that does not exist.
Will I find every OpenAI partner in the partner search?
No. Listings in the OpenAI Partner Locator are reserved for the Advanced and Elite tiers, with an exception for Select partners enrolled in the 2025 program year. A company missing from the Locator is not necessarily missing from the program.
Can a Polish company be an OpenAI partner?
Yes. The program is global and not limited to one market. YES FOR sp. z o.o., the company behind yesfor.ai, is an OpenAI Select Partner.
