How to become an OpenAI partner. The Partner Network step by step
— W SKRÓCIE
Applications to the OpenAI Partner Network go through an interest form on openai.com. The program is global and open to companies that build, sell or implement solutions on OpenAI models. OpenAI publishes no numerical thresholds: no required customer count, no minimum API spend. Before applying, it helps to have documented implementations, technical capability and a settled approach to customer data.

What the OpenAI Partner Network is
It is OpenAI's global channel program for companies that build solutions on its models, sell them alongside OpenAI, implement them for customers, or connect customers with the technology. The program launched in June 2026.
A fuller description of the program, its tiers and its specialisations sits in a separate piece: how the OpenAI Partner Network works.
Who can become a partner
The program is open to organisations that help customers deploy OpenAI products and grow with them. There is no split by market or sector, and no requirement to be a purely technical company. Partners named publicly include global consultancies and smaller firms specialised in AI.
What OpenAI does not say: it publishes no minimum company size, no required headcount and no revenue threshold.
What the application looks like
The publicly described path has three parts.
- Interest form. OpenAI runs an application form for organisations that want to join the program. It asks for company details and the role the company wants to take.
- Review on OpenAI's side. The submission is not a contract and does not mean automatic acceptance. OpenAI publishes neither a review time nor a decision framework.
- Partner portal. Companies accepted into the program work in the Partner Portal, where they find materials, certification paths and tier guidance.
That is everything the sources support. The rest, meaning the course of the conversations, the questions asked and the timelines, depends on the individual application and is not described publicly.
How to prepare before applying
This section is our assessment, based on the areas OpenAI names as deciding a partner's position: sales results, technical certification, co-selling and implementation experience. It is not a list of OpenAI requirements.
Documented implementations. Not a deck about what AI can do, but projects where you can show the state of a process before the change and after it. One described properly counts for more than five listed by name.
Technical capability in the team. Working with the API, integrating with customer systems, working with data, security. Technical certification is one of the areas that drive advancement, and OpenAI has announced certification for consultants at scale.
A settled approach to customer data. Where data goes, who has access, what happens to it after the project. Customers will ask anyway, and the answer "our policy is in preparation" costs contracts.
Regulatory footing. For companies operating in the European Union that means knowing the obligations the AI Act places on providers and on deployers.
A way of working, not just a service. The program provides for co-selling, so a company should know who it sells to and what, not only what it can build.
Common mistakes before applying
Confusing individual certification with organisational status. They are two different mechanisms. A course completed by one person does not make a company a partner.
Building the offer around a tool instead of a process. A company that can only talk about the model compares badly with one that can describe a customer's process and put a number on what it cost before the change.
Quoting criteria that do not exist. Specific thresholds circulate online: customer counts, API spend levels, revenue floors. They do not come from OpenAI materials. Repeating them in your own communication costs credibility.
Presenting the status as a quality certificate. Program materials describe a status within a partner network, not an assessment of service quality.
What partnership gives you
Three things confirmed in program materials: access to resources and implementation materials prepared by OpenAI, support from OpenAI teams during customer work, and the option to co-sell.
A fourth is indirect and often matters more to the end customer. A company working close to the technology vendor knows earlier where the product is heading. That limits the risk of building something that stops making sense after the next model update.
The view from yesfor.ai
YES FOR sp. z o.o., the company behind yesfor.ai, holds OpenAI Select Partner status.
We do not describe our own application here, because the details of the process are not public information and we do not want to present one company's experience as the program's rule.
What we can say plainly: the implementations done beforehand mattered, not the claims about capability. The tools we now give clients were first built for a freight forwarding business run by our founder. Doing it in your own company first, then selling it, is rarer in this industry than it should be.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I apply to the OpenAI Partner Network?
- Through the interest form on OpenAI's site. A company gives its organisational details and describes the role it wants to take in the program. The form is an expression of interest, not a contract, and it does not mean automatic acceptance.
- Can a company outside the United States become an OpenAI partner?
- Yes. The program is global and not limited to selected markets. YES FOR sp. z o.o., the Polish company behind yesfor.ai, went through the process and holds OpenAI Select Partner status.
- Can a small company become an OpenAI partner?
- OpenAI publishes no size threshold. Partners named publicly include global consultancies and smaller firms specialised in AI. Company size is not the only criterion, but implementation experience carries weight.
- Do I need customers and implementations before applying?
- OpenAI names implementation experience as one of the areas that determine a partner's position in the program. It does not publish a required number of projects. In practice an application with no documented project is hard to argue for.
- Does OpenAI publish requirements for the Select tier?
- Not as numerical thresholds. It names the areas that drive advancement between tiers: sales results, technical certification, co-selling and implementation experience. It publishes no cut-off values.
- How long does the process take?
- OpenAI does not publish a review time. Any number of weeks quoted elsewhere is somebody's experience or guess, not a stated deadline.
- Is partnership paid?
- OpenAI does not publish a price for participating in the program. We quote no figure here, because we have none from an official source.
- How does a partner differ from a company that simply uses the API?
- API access is open to anyone and requires no status. Partnership is a program relationship: access to resources, implementation materials and support from OpenAI, plus the option to co-sell. Using the API does not make a company a partner.
